Electric toothbrush for Toddlers: Is it safe?

If your baby is a fussy toothbrush(er), well then, you would adopt anything that makes your work easier in making your baby brush. Dental hygiene is very important in babies because if kids don't brush their teeth properly, it can decay and fall.

To help you with the whole teeth brushing process, electric toothbrushes seem to be a good choice. They look fancy and attractive to toddlers and hence, they agree to brush their teeth with no hardwork from you at all. According to the Indian Dental Association, electric brushes can be used as an alternative to manual brushes, especially when your baby would just not brush their teeth!

Tips for choosing the right electric toothbrush for your toddler

Before deciding to buy an electric toothbrush for your baby, it is always better to consult your dentist so that your dentist can suggest a suitable brand. Once that is done, here are a few tips that will help you in making the right purchase for your baby:

  1. Make sure that your baby's brush has soft bristles so that these bristles are gentler on your baby's gums and do not hurt your baby in any manner.

  1. The size of the toothbrush makes a lot of difference for its practical usage. Ensure that you pick the right size and style for your baby.

  1. Let your baby choose the toothbrush. It could be a simple one or one with cartoon characters. Whatever it is, your baby needs to choose it!

  1. You could also go for toothbrushes that have light and music emitting out of them.

  1. You may want to consider a rechargeable brush over a battery-operated one. This is because a battery-operated brush has a chance of running out of battery when your baby is brushing.

  1. Ensure that the toothbrush’s head is the right size to fit into your baby's mouth well.

In a nutshell, electric toothbrushes can be a great way to motivate your baby to brush regularly. However, it is always better to consult a dentist before taking any decision!
